   Tom, read and digested the interview. Interesting question that, about ‘writing in the nude’. Obviously she either does it herself, knows someone who does or someone kidded her on about doing it and she fell for it, hook, line and sinker.
   There is some snobbery about historical fiction subject matter, I think. There is a bias toward Classical themes, although there are others I know who write about the ‘Conquest’ era. Bernard Cornwell’s – as we both know – go back even further, to Aelfred’s time. Not exactly the best-covered in the fiction world, the Viking Age was associated with Nazism for a long time until Magnus Magnusson made it respectable.
   How’s the writing coming on, on the follow-up? I’m almost onto Chapter 4 of FENMAN as I write here. Hope to have started Ch.4 by the end of writing tonight (10.50 pm now). The siege of Ely is the subject matter all the way through.

     Hey Alan, Yes, its amazing how different periods of history go in and out of fashion. I guess it just takes something to capture to public imagination, and then it can take off.
     I’m glad to here your latest novel is going well, I’m up to chapter 5 of my new book now….not that I’m competing 😉
